Shania Twain opened up about her journey to becoming a global country-pop trailblazer with her “most personal work” yet.
Twain, 60, paid tribute to her roots with Little Miss Twain, the history-making artist’s seventh studio record that arrived on Friday (July 24). The 15-track project “is reflective of my teens, my roots as well as the energy of the rock and R&B I loved so much, but still with that Western twang. Where I’m from you don’t go anywhere on a horse — you go on a snowmobile. I was dreaming about the Western lifestyle and I was living in a very different world than where I ended up.”
“Little Miss Twain and those formative years of my life were just a distant private memory until recently and now it’s a shared story,” Twain shared on Friday. “The same as the album, it was mine and now ‘Little Miss Twain’ is ours! Please take a listen and see if it speaks to you. I’m full of anxiety and excitement at the response but even if you find one lyric that speaks to you or makes you feel something I’ll be happy. The emotional journey on this album was a true rollercoaster and there were moments where I felt like I was sitting with my younger self while my mother looked over me. It was very painful at times, but telling some of these stories out loud was also incredibly healing, and then there was the fun and laughter... There are songs here that are also about good vibes, summer days and feeling good! Thank you for going into the next chapter with me - it’s not easy to evolve as an artist and keep your people with you but you’ve been loyal and supportive through it all.

Twain, now the top-selling female country-pop artist of all time, reflected on her journey in a recent CBS interview. She remembered performing in local bars when she was 8 years old, despite feeling “uncomfortable” and combatting stage fright (still, her mother always believed she would be the next Tanya Tucker, inspiring the album’s title track).
“Little Miss Twain is me, now, looking back at my child's self and the journey that child went through, from starting out in those bars at eight years old, right up to when I got my recording contract in Nashville,” Twain continued during her conversation with CBS. “I didn't get a contract until I was in my late 20s. My first Top 10 record, I was 30 already. So, there's all of these years that were me making a living with singing in bars as a cover singer, collecting all of the songwriting that would end up becoming the Shania Twain records.”
Little Miss Twain is the legendary country star’s latest record since 2023’s Queen of Me.
