Anaïs Mitchell Talks Bringing 'Hadestown' To Broadway

Hadestown swept the Tony Award nominations with an astounding 14 nominations!

Michael Riedel caught up with the brains behind the production, Anaïs Mitchell, following her nomination for Best Original Score Written for Theatre and Best Book of a Musical to talk about the beginnings of Hadestown.

"It was not on the radar for a long time. Our show Hadestown began 13 years ago in the state of Vermont, it was a DIY community theater project and then a couple years later I made an album of some of the music and I kept working on it. Then, I met Rachel Chavkin and our director and it has just been sort of one foot in front of the next the entire way and suddenly the the destination became Broadway! I'm so grateful and so thrilled that we have a home here."

Hadestown is taking Broadway by storm. In addtionIn addition to Mitchell's double nominations, the musical is nominated for 12 other Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations.
