RICHARD EYRE (Director) has worked in theater, film and opera for 50 years. He directed in regional theater before becoming Director of the National Theatre in 1988. For 10 years he directed numerous productions there includingHamlet,Richard III,King Lear, Guys and Dolls,Night of the Iguana,John Gabriel Borkman and new plays by David Hare, Tom Stoppard and Christopher Hampton. Subsequently he directed many plays in the West End and on Broadway. He worked for BBC TV from 1978-81 and his tv credits includeThe Insurance Man,Tumbledown, Henry IV, The Dresser and King Lear. His feature films includeIris, Notes on a Scandal and The Children Act. He has directed Carmen, Werther, Le Nozze di Figaro and Manon Lescaut at the Metropolitan Opera. He has also published two memoirs: Utopia and Other Places and National Service.He has received many awards for theatre and film.
