The highly anticipated Broadway opening of Sing Street was about to happen. Then COVID-19 shutdown the entire live entertainment industry, hitting Broadway particularly hard. It left many shows in limbo, especially not knowing when Broadway would be opening back up again. Now it appears that Sign Street is pushing their Broadway opening to the 2021-2022 season.

That announcement came Monday from producers Barbara Broccoli, Brian Carmody, Patrick Milling Smith, Michael Wilson, Orin Wolf and Frederick Zollo. The show was originally to take place at the Lyceum Theatre but they will now look for a new theatre to house the production.

Deadline reports that the producers want to be responsible. They want to properly show off this new Broadway musical and that means waiting for the right time.

Sing Street was originally staged Off Broadway by the New York Theatre Workshop in 2019.
