See Jennifer Hudson As Aretha Franklin In 'Respect' Official Trailer

The first official trailer for the new Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, is here! Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson shines as the Queen of Soul in this first look into the film.

Released during the BET Awards, the trailer begins with Hudson belting the iconic song “Respect” with the word spelled out behind her in giant neon letters. The film follows the rise of the Aretha Franklin's career beginning as a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom. Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.

The cast features Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner, Tate Donovan, and Mary J. Blige.

The film directed by Liesl Tommy was originally set to open in theaters October 9, but was pushed to a limited Christmas Day release with a wide opening on January 15. Watch the trailer in the video player above.
