"Hip Hop: Songs That Shook America" - 2019 Tribeca TV Festival

Just announced this week, Black No More, the new musical from Tarik Trotter, has set a world premiere date for October 20th at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

Off-Broadway's The New Group is behind the production and Tony winners Scott Elliot and Bill T. Jones are set to direct and choreograph the show. It features a book from Oscar winner John Ridley and a score from Trotter, who is also starring in the musical.

Joining The Roots' frontman will be the Tony nominated actors Brandon Victor Dixon and Jennifer Damiano. Tamika Lawrence and Theo Stockman also join the cast.

Black No More is adapted from George S. Schuyler's Harlem Renaissance-era novel. It's set in June of 1928 in New York City and follows a graduate of Howard University, Dr. Junius Crookman, played by Trotter. Crookman's goal is to solve America's race problem.
