Jodi Picoult Adapting 'The Book Thief' For Stage at Octagon Theatre

Premiere Of "My Sister's Keeper" - Arrivals

Get ready for an all new musical adaptation! Jodi Picoult's next project is adapting Markus Zusak's novel, The Book Thief, as a stage musical for the autumn season at the Octagon Theatre.

The all new stage musical will be written by Jodi Picoult and Timothy Allen McDonald. Music and lyrics will be written Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson.

About working on this new project, Picoult said:

Having the chance to bring it to life three-dimensionally in a world premiere musical at the Octagon is a dream for us.
The story of a foster child in Nazi Germany — who learns the power words have to hurt and heal — feels painfully relevant today.

For those who don't know, The Book Thief takes place in 1930's Nazi Germany and follows a young orphan named Liesel, who "enters a dangeros game of book thievery."

According to The Stage, this is the lineup for the 2020/2021 autumn season at The Octagon.
