ABC To Present Live Musical Of 'Young Frankenstein'

The 62nd Annual Tony Awards - Show

Young Frankenstein is heading to ABC! The musical will get the live television treatment this fall. The announcement was made at the TCA press tour, though no further details (including casting and an exact air date) have been revealed.

The musical was based on Mel Brooks' 1974 film and opened on Broadway in 2007 with a score by Brooks himself. Susan Stroman directed and choreographed. The original Broadway cast included Christopher Fitzgerald, Andrea Martin, Roger Bart, Sutton Foster, Shuler Hensley, and Megan Mullally. Engagements have played around the world in Paris, Rome, Mexico City, London, and Madrid.

ABC is relatively new to the live TV musical trend. The station kicked off its first live musical in November with a live performance-film screening hybrid with The Little Mermaid. The program starred Auli'i Cravalho, Queen Latifah, John Stamos, Shaggy, and Graham Phillips pulled in roughly nine million viewers.

More details on Young Frankenstein to follow.
