Leslie Odom Jr. Talks New Album 'Mr.' & How Billy Porter Changed His Life

Upon the eve of Tony and Grammy award-winning performer Leslie Odom, Jr.'s album release, he sat down with iHeartRadio Broadway to chat about said album, Mr., how his daughter inspires him, and how Billy Porter changed his life.

The screen and stage star reminisced on his journey to Mr. with Sam from The Elvis Duran Show. Odom admits that his wildest dream once was to be cast in Rent. Once that dream became a reality, he had to reimagine his whole career and decided to set off for college. While going to school at Carnegie Mellon, he listened to Billy Porter cover "Beauty School Drop Out" from Grease and it changed everything for him. He set new dreams and goals and they led him to where he is today.

Following the release of Leslie Odom Jr.'s album on November 8 from S-Curve Records/BMG, the Hamilton alum will embark on the Stronger Magic Tour this spring. Leslie Odom Jr. won the Tony Award in 2016 for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in Lin Manuel-Miranda's Hamilton. He was last seen on the big screen in Murder On The Orient Express and has returned to the theaters in the Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet.
