Broadway Theatres Will Dim Lights Friday To Honor Late Phyllis Newman

63rd Annual Tony Awards - Arrivals

On September 15, 2019 Broadway lost one of their own. Legendary performer, lyricist, and women's health advocate, Phyllis Newman, passed away and Friday night the Broadway theatres around the city will honor her memory.

If you're attending a show Friday September 27th you'll be part of the ceremony as the theatres dim their lights at 7:45pm. The theatres doing this will be The American Airlines, Broadhurst, Helen Hayes, Lunt-Fontanne, Lyric, New Amsterdam, Samuel J. Friedman, St. James, and Vivian Beaumont Theatres. The light will remain dimmed for one minute.

Thomas Schumacher, Chairman of The Broadway League said:

Beyond her indelible mark as an actor, it’s impossible to overstate the extraordinary good that Phyllis Newman did over 30 years for our community through The Actors Fund and The Phyllis Newman Women’s Initiative.
