Netflix is adapting the Broadway musical 13 into a family film. 13 will join Netflix’s growing collection of live action family films featuring both kids and teens.
13 follows Evan Goldman, a young man who moves from New York City to a small town in Indiana. He prepares for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah while also dealing with his parents' divorce and adjusting to a new school.
Three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown is composing new music for the film and Tony winner Robert Horn is adapting the script based on the book he co-wrote with Dan Elish. Tamra Davis will direct the film.
On Broadway, the show ran for 105 performances between 2008 and 2009 and featured the first and only all-teenager cast and band. The show was the professional debut of stars Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies. The musical has continued to be popular among teenagers since its debut and is often performed by high school theater groups.
