Katrina Lenk & Patti LuPone To Star In Gender Reversed Rendition Of Company

Company is coming to Broadway with a gender reversal twist. This 1970’s musical will be directed by Marianne Elliott with the central character being a female Bobbie instead of the usual male led Bobby.

Tony Award winning actress Katrina Lenk will play Bobbie and fellow Tony winner Patti LuPone will be play Joanne. Joanne is usually played by a man, Oliver, in the original production but was transformed into Joanne for this gender-reversed play.

Composer Stephen Sondheim reimagined certain characters as the opposite gender. Instead of Bobby’s three of girlfriends Marta, Kathy, and April from the original play, they are now three boyfriends s PJ, Theo, and Andy. This production also differs from the original because it updates the lyrics to fit a present day story.

Previews begin March 2, 2020, and opening night is set for March 22, Sondheim's 90th birthday. The show will include features choreography by Liam Steel, sets and costumes by Bunny Christie, lighting design by Neil Austin, sound design Ian Dickinson, and illusions by Chris Fisher.

Let's drink to that!
