André De Shields To Receive Oscar Hammerstein Award

The York Theatre Company announced the honorees for the 28th Oscar Hammerstein Awards Gala.

André De Shields at the age of 73, recently won a Tony Award for his performance as Hermes in Hadestown. He will receive the 2019 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre. Producer Riki Kane Larimer will be honored with The York Theatre Company Founders' Award.

André De Shields has acted in on and off Broadway shows for 50 years. The York Theatre Company stated that the purpose of the Oscar Hammerstein Award is "to recognize significant lifetime achievement in musical theatre, and it is presented at a gala evening held for the benefit of The York Theatre Company." And The Founders' Award is designed to “recognize individuals who have made a significant impact on the sustainability of the Company, and of the arts."

André De Shields will receive his Award at the 28th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala, which will be held on Monday evening, November 11th, 2019 at The Edison Ballroom.
