"Hercules" Will Be Staged In Central Park This Summer

Get ready for a summer of theatre! The Public Theater announced a Public Works staging of Hercules , the musical based on the Disney 1997 animated film, to appear at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This will follow two new Shakespeare in the Park productions.

The production is being directed by Lear de Bessonet and choreographed by Chase Brock. The show will fun from August 30th through September 8th. The story will be told by professional actors and community groups from New York City.

"Many generations of our Public Works families have embraced Disney musicals as a shared American canon," says the Public Works founder and Hercules diretion de Bessonet, "Hercules' roots in Greek mythology, infused with soulful gospel music, make it a natural extension of Public Works' radical exploration of humanity through Shakespeare and the classics. We're excited to see how this Public Works production will uncover the deeper meaning of what it means to be a hero and how true strength is derived, not from the greatness of one person, but the transformative power of community."

Cast and creative team for the production will be announced soon!
