Jennifer Simard Finds a New Home in Schmigadoon!

Three-time Tony Award nominee Jennifer Simard is bringing her signature comedic brilliance to Broadway once again, now starring as Mildred Layton in the Tony Award-winning musical Schmigadoon! at the Nederlander Theatre. Simard recently joined Christine Nagy on Inside Broadway, the iHeartRadio Broadway podcast, to discuss stepping into the beloved role, returning to a familiar theater, and why the show's joyful spirit has captured her heart.

Taking over the role originated by Ana Gasteyer, Simard expressed both gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. “My hat's off to her and everything she accomplished. Nothing but respect,” Simard said. “It's really a privilege to step in for her.” The experience has been especially meaningful as she returns to the Nederlander Theatre, where she earned her first Tony Award nomination in Disaster!. “It's nice to come back where I made such happy memories and to make new ones.”

Now several weeks into her run, Simard says she is fully embracing the production and its colorful world. “I'm really having the time of my life now because I feel a bit more relaxed and on top of my game,” she shared, referring to mastering the show's famously fast-paced musical numbers. She added that the show's uplifting energy is contagious both on and off the stage.

For Simard, Schmigadoon! offers more than just laughs. “The minute the show starts, I'm like, well, this is a land I want to be in.” Audiences seem to share that feeling, making the musical one of Broadway's most joyful escapes.

Schmigadoon! is now playing at the Nederlander Theatre through January 3, 2027. For tickets and information, visit SchmigadoonBroadway.com.
